Besan Ladoo Recipe

Besan ladoo is a traditional Indian sweet made from roasted chickpea flour (besan), sugar, ghee (clarified butter), and flavored with cardamom and nuts. Here's a simple recipe to make besan ladoo:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups besan (chickpea flour)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios)
  • A pinch of saffron strands (optional)

Instructions:

1. Roasting the Besan:

Place a pan with a thick base on a low to medium flame. Add the gram flour and dry roast it, stirring continuously to prevent burning. Keep roasting until the flour releases a pleasant aroma and turns a rich golden brown, which should take around 12-15 minutes. Stay patient and keep stirring consistently for even roasting.

2. Making the Ladoo Mixture:

Once the besan is roasted, turn off the heat and let it cool slightly.

Add powdered sugar, cardamom powder, and chopped nuts to the roasted besan. Mix well.

Heat ghee in a small pan until it melts and becomes warm.

Slowly pour the warm ghee over the roasted besan mixture, little by little, while continuously mixing with a spoon or spatula.

Keep adding ghee until the mixture starts to come together like a dough. The texture should be crumbly yet hold shape when pressed together.

3. Shaping the Ladoos:

Allow the mixture to cool down slightly so that it becomes easy to handle.

Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round balls (ladoos) by gently pressing and rolling between your palms.

Repeat this process with the remaining mixture to make all the besan ladoos.

4. Garnishing (Optional):

If using saffron strands, you can soak them in a teaspoon of warm milk for a few minutes. Then, garnish each besan ladoo with a few saffron strands on top before shaping them.

You can also press a whole nut or a piece of chopped nut on top of each ladoo for garnishing.

5. Serving:

Allow the besan ladoos to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.

Serve and enjoy these delicious besan ladoos as a festive treat or as a sweet snack

Enjoy your homemade besan ladoos!
